a story that keeps going.

“‘Unfinished art’ expresses a beauty that is as if time has stopped midway.”

Masahiro Maruyama

Perfect is not the same as 完成していることは違う。finished.

Masahiro first made glasses as a teenager, and found that his imperfect frames were, for him, perfect. Years in the eyewear industry later, he set out to make something he would actually wear: eyewear as craft and as art, not mass production.

Monocle

“I see eyewear not only as a fashion or everyday item, but also as a tool that reflects one's identity, like a wearable art piece.”

MASAHIROMARUYAMA founded, on the concept of unfinished art.
Left and right deliberately different. Strong individuality in every frame.
Made in an old-standing factory in Kawada, by craftsmen using traditional filing and hinge-mounting techniques.
Broken, born from the irregular shape of broken objects. Monocle and Step for SS26.

What we do, the problem it solves, and そしてもたらすもの。what it gives you.

What we do

TrataTech gives every MASAHIROMARUYAMA frame its own digital passport. A small tag goes into the frame or the case. When the owner taps it with their phone, they see that the frame is genuine, the story of its design in your words, and that it is registered to them. From your own dashboard, you can then stay in touch with the people who own your frames.

The problem it solves

Asymmetry can be misread

At a busy counter, an intentional asymmetry can look like a mistake if nobody explains it. The idea behind it is the whole point.

The story stays in Sabae

Unfinished art, the craftsmen of Kawada, the meaning of each collection: most of it never reaches the person buying the frame.

You never meet your owners

The optician knows the customer. You do not. Your most loyal admirers stay invisible to you.

What it gives you

Understood design

Every owner learns why their frame is asymmetric, in your words.

Proof of origin

A distinctive design invites copies. Each genuine frame proves it is yours.

Owner on record

Ownership is registered, and passes to the next owner if the frame is sold or given.

A direct line

Share a new collection or an event with the people who already love your work.

The second pair

Owners hear about Monocle, Step and what comes next, and return through their optician.

Opticians helped

A frame that explains itself is easier to sell. The optician stays at the centre.

The intention behind the line.

The certificate, the reason the frame looks the way it does, and an open door to the next one. All carried by the frame itself. Its design does not change.

“Through eyewear, I hope to bring happiness to the people who wear it.” The passport lets you keep doing that, long after the purchase.

Where shall we begin?
